Today, automotive manufacturing faces a wide range of challenges, including not only design, functionality, performance, and durability, but also the need to reduce CO2 and VOC emissions, make use of difficult-to-bond recycled materials, and introduce new composite materials for lightweight design. In addition, there is a growing need to protect electronic components such as sensors essential for autonomous driving from external influences including temperature fluctuations and vibration.

In pretreatment processes for reliable bonding and coating of materials with diverse surface properties, our atmospheric-pressure plasma technology Openair-Plasma® plays a vital role.

Our atmospheric-pressure plasma technologies are already used in more than 100 automotive applications, including pretreatment for coating exterior parts such as bumpers, pretreatment for weather-resistant bonding, surface activation of battery cells, surface cleaning for waterproof bonding of headlamps, and functional nano-coatings using PlasmaPlus®, which is based on Openair-Plasma® technology.

In this webinar, we will focus on some of the applications we are most frequently asked about, including cleaning and surface modification before bonding and coating of composite materials, protective treatment for components containing sensitive electronic parts such as LiDAR, and corrosion protection coating AntiCorr® for metal parts. We will introduce the mechanisms, effects, and practical applications of our representative atmospheric-pressure plasma technologies.
