Low-polarity plastics such as polypropylene (PP) and polycarbonate (PC) have poor wettability, which means that liquids such as adhesives and coatings can easily peel away from the surface. For this reason, some form of surface treatment is considered essential before processes such as bonding, coating, and printing.

At the same time, “surface treatment” is not a single, uniform process. The optimal surface condition varies depending on the application and the requirements of the subsequent process.

Among the many available surface treatment technologies, why is Plasmatreat’s atmospheric-pressure plasma technology Openair-Plasma® so widely adopted across a broad range of industries?

One of the key features of Openair-Plasma® is that it is an environmentally clean dry process. Conventional surface treatment has often relied on wet processes, such as chemical cleaning or primers containing volatile organic compounds (VOC). By contrast, Openair-Plasma® is a dry process that does not use chemicals, helping reduce environmental impact and eliminating the need for a drying step.

In addition, it offers many other advantages, including damage-free treatment of substrate surfaces and easy integration into inline and automated production processes.

Although Openair-Plasma® is effective for many substrates, including metals and glass, this PlasmaTalk webinar will focus specifically on plastic materials and introduce the principles and effects of the technology. We will explain how Openair-Plasma® helps address challenges related to adhesion strength, surface adhesion, and durability, and we will also present application examples in which the technology has already been adopted.

ウェビナートピックス:
