Bonding processes are used in the manufacture of products across many industries, and primer-based pretreatment has long been a common practice.

At the same time, there is a growing movement to regulate VOC emissions from an environmental perspective. In addition, processes that use solvents not only place a greater burden on environmental protection, but also involve disadvantages in production, including costs and management associated with transportation, storage, and disposal.

Meanwhile, as product functions continue to diversify and become more advanced, the difficulty of bonding has also increased. To achieve high quality and durability in the bonding of low-polarity plastics and metals, or in coating and printing on these materials, proper surface pretreatment has become an essential step.

In response to these changing demands, Openair-Plasma^®, a completely dry process, has been adopted as an alternative to solvent-based primers for surface pretreatment in a wide range of bonding, printing, and coating processes.
