Exhibition Report: Highly-Functional Material Week Adhesion & Bonding Expo 2025 Osaka

Nihon Plasmatreat exhibited at Highly-Functional Material Week Adhesion & Bonding Expo 2025 Osaka, held at INTEX Osaka from May 14 (Wed) to 16 (Fri), 2025.

This exhibition is one of the Kansai region’s leading trade shows, bringing together the latest solutions related to functional materials and bonding technologies. The venue attracted a wide range of visitors, from material and component manufacturers to professionals from the automotive and electrical industries.

Live Demonstrations of Atmospheric-Pressure Plasma Technology for Pretreatment Before Bonding, Painting, and Coating

At our booth, we introduced advanced surface modification solutions using Openair-Plasma®, our atmospheric-pressure plasma technology, for pretreatment before bonding, painting, and coating on plastics, metals, and other substrates. The exhibit highlighted how plasma treatment can clean and activate surfaces, improve wettability, and enhance surface functionality.

We also presented PlasmaPlus®, a nano-coating technology based on Openair-Plasma®, which enables a wide range of functional coatings for applications such as water repellency, corrosion protection, and improved bond strength. As a primer-free and environmentally friendly solution, PlasmaPlus® addresses growing demand for functional surface modification on a wide variety of materials.

One of the technologies that attracted particular attention at this exhibition was our new REDOX® tool. This technology performs oxidation-reduction treatment on metal surfaces at atmospheric pressure. As a dry process suitable for inline integration, it can remove oxide layers without the use of chemicals or vacuum systems, which drew strong interest from many visitors.

Experience Plasma Technology Through Visible Before-and-After Comparisons

At the booth, we conducted surface treatment demonstrations using a variety of test pieces made of plastics, metals, and composite materials. Visitors were able to see for themselves how wettability and adhesion changed significantly before and after treatment.

Visitors shared comments such as, “Plasma itself is invisible, but seeing the difference in results made the effect easy to understand,” “I was surprised to learn that no ozone is generated, which gives confidence from a safety perspective,” and “Because no special gases are required, the barrier to implementation seems low.” We also heard from many visitors that, although they had previously had only a vague impression of plasma technology, the clear explanations and demonstrations helped deepen their understanding. It was a valuable opportunity to promote a better understanding of the technology.

Looking Ahead for Plasmatreat

In addition to these exhibits, we also presented examples of actual plasma treatment on EV battery packs and engine blocks, and explained the importance of precise plasma control technology, which is one of the key factors behind Plasmatreat’s leading global market position.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Plasmatreat. Going forward, we will continue contributing to manufacturing across a wide range of industries through VOC-free and environmentally friendly plasma surface modification technologies.

We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who visited our booth at this exhibition.
